Who we are

CarBuyNow (Unit 7, Crofton Drive, Greetwell Hollow, Lincoln, LN3 4NR) is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. If you have any questions, contact us at support@carbuynow.co.uk.

What we collect

• Nothing at all, for a free check. You can run one without giving us a name, an email address or an account.
• Your email address, when you buy checks or ask for a report to be emailed to you. That address is how your checks are held and how you get back to them.
• Purchase details — which pack you bought, what you paid, and a payment reference.
• The registrations you check, and the reports produced from them, so you can reopen a report you paid for.
• Contact details you give us in an enquiry or complaint — name, email, phone number.
• Account details, for customers who register — email and a securely hashed password.
• Basic usage data — pages viewed, to keep the site working well.

A registration is information about a vehicle, not about you. We hold the ones you check against your email address only so that your reports remain available to you.

What we don't store

We never see or store your full card number. Card payments are processed directly by our payment partner, PayPal — we only receive confirmation that a payment succeeded and a reference number.

How we use it

• To run the checks you ask for and deliver the resulting reports.
• To hold your checks against your address and let you reopen past reports.
• To send receipts, report copies and access links.
• To respond to enquiries and complaints.
• To operate your account, if you have one.
• To meet our legal and regulatory obligations.

We do not use the registrations you check for marketing, and we do not tell anyone — including a seller, a dealer or an insurer — that a particular vehicle has been checked.

Who we share it with

We share personal data only where necessary, with:

• PayPal, to process payments.
• Our email delivery provider, to send receipts, reports and access links.
• Our vehicle data providers, who receive the registration being checked in order to return its records. They do not receive your name or email address.

We never sell your personal data.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, or object to certain uses of it. To exercise any of these rights, email support@carbuynow.co.uk. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) at any time.

How long we keep it

We keep your reports and the checks held against your address for as long as your account with that address is in use, so you can reopen them. Purchase records are kept for 6 years to meet our accounting obligations. Enquiry and complaint correspondence is kept while the matter is open and for a reasonable period afterwards.

Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to unlock the checks and reports held against your email address on this browser. We also record which campaign or link brought you to the site, which stores no identifier and cannot identify you. We don't use third-party advertising cookies.
