Using this site
By using CarBuyNowor buying a vehicle check, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
CarBuyNow provides vehicle history information. We do not sell vehicles, act for any seller, or take any commission on a sale. We have no interest in whether you buy the vehicle you check.
What a check is
A check reports information held about a vehicle on third-party records at the moment you run it. The free check draws on DVLA and DVSA data. A Full Check additionally draws on finance and insurance industry records covering outstanding finance, insurance write-off categories and stolen markers.
We report those records as we receive them. We do not create the underlying data, and we can't correct it — if you believe a record is wrong, it has to be corrected at source with the organisation that holds it, and we'll tell you which one that is if you ask.
What a check is not
A check is not a mechanical inspection, a valuation you can rely on for finance or insurance purposes, a guarantee of a vehicle's condition, or advice on whether to buy. It cannot tell you whether a vehicle is roadworthy, whether previous repairs were done properly, or whether the price is fair.
Any score, recommendation or summary in a report — including text generated automatically — is our opinion based on the records returned, offered to help you ask better questions. It is not a statement of fact about the vehicle and must not be treated as the only basis for a purchase decision. Always inspect a vehicle, and consider an independent mechanical inspection.
An absence of records is not proof that nothing happened. A record can be missing, delayed or never reported in the first place, and a report saying “none recorded” means exactly that and no more.
Paying for checks
Prices are shown before you pay and include VAT where applicable. Checks are held against the email address used to buy them, and unlocked by a link sent to that address. Keep access to that inbox — it is how you prove the checks are yours.
Checks do not expire.
Cancellation and refunds
A check is digital content. When you buy one you consent to it being available immediately and acknowledge that you lose the 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 in respect of any check you have used.
Checks you have not used can be refunded within 30 days: email support@carbuynow.co.uk with your receipt number. Refunds are issued within 14 days of us accepting the request.
If a paid check fails to return a report because of a fault at our end, contact us and we will restore the check to your account or refund it.
Acceptable use
Checks are sold for your own use in deciding whether to buy, sell or keep a vehicle. You may not resell reports, republish them, scrape the site, or run checks on behalf of others as a service without a written agreement with us. You must have a legitimate reason for checking a registration.
Liability
We aren't liable for losses that weren't reasonably foreseeable, for losses arising from decisions you take based on a report, or for issues outside our control — including errors, omissions or delays in the third-party records we report.
Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, or excludes liability for death, personal injury or fraud.
Privacy
How we handle your data is set out in our privacy policy.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version in force is always the one published on this page.
